Funtown Splashtown USA
Saco, Maine
May 2005

I had herd of this park from a few people and decided to go there for a visit.  The day I went there was opening day of the season, but it was the last week of school.  Since I had a vacation day that day and school was still in session, I had the park to myself (I really mean it).

Funtown Splashtown has an interesting pricing policy, that I liked.  An adult ride all day pass is $25.00 and a child's ride pass is $17.00.  If you want to just go to the water park, then you can buy just a water park pass for $17.00 adult or $14.00 kids.  There is also a combined pass for $32.00 adult and $23.00 kids.  An interesting option was the walk around pass, which was $10.00.  This pass is great for parents or grandparents that do not want to ride the rides.  No other park in New England has this option, which without it, forces non riding guests to either stay at home or pay the full price which is usually not worth it.  Since the day I was there, not all rides were running (mostly the kids rides) and it was raining, they discounted the full day ride pass that day to only $17.00 for everyone.

Funtown Splashtown consists mostly of rides for younger kids, but there are rides for teens and adults to enjoy.  For me, I spent most of my time on the Dragon's Descent (Free Fall) and Excalibur Coaster.  Since there was no one there that day, I rode the Excalibur about 15 times in a row without getting off.  It was a great wooden In and Out coaster and is the only one in Maine.  Very smooth and a lot fun.

Since this was opening day, and there was no one there, it was really hard to get a good idea of what the atmosphere of the park really was.  It was really clean, but then again it was opening day and empty.  The staff running the rides were really friendly and I did enjoy myself, but I will really need to go visit again to get the full experience.
