Canobie Lake Park

August 2004
It just seems like every time I go to this park it rains out. While the colors seem to come out better in my pictures, I had to battle to keep the camera dry. It wasn't raining very much when we go there, but by mid afternoon, it was raining so hard they closed the park for the day.
The rain did not really bother me otherwise as it made for short lines on my favorite ride, The Yankee Cannon Ball.
As usual, the park was very clean and it is still one of the few parks around that does not charge for parking (but they make up for that by over pricing the food). I really don't have a problem paying a bit more for the food as even the park entrance fee is under $30, which makes for a low cost day at the park overall.

I had the pleasure of visiting this park again this summer. There were some noticeable changes made to the park which I was very pleased about. The major thing I noticed was the fresh coat of paint on many of the rides and within the queue areas (as you will be able to see in the photos). It made this older traditional park look almost new again. The park is kept very clean, and the staff was very friendly. While there was a slight price increase this year, it's still a bargain at only $24.00 for adults and $16.00 for kids under 48 inches compared to other parks in the New England area that are between $30-$40 dollars. Most of the coaster lines were no more than a 30 minute wait, and all other lines were at about 15 minutes or less. The park opens at 10:30 most days, but the rides don't start up until noon, so I was able to get most of the photos when no one was around. The new ride for this year is "da Vinci's Dream". It is basically one of the most decorated and artistically designed Yo-Yo type swing rides I have seen. Very well done. One last note, this park has a great collection of old arcade games, going all the way back to the original mechanical pinball and baseball games.

This park is celebrating it's 100th birthday this year. It has a lot of vintage rides as well as new rides. While lacking in major roller coasters, this park has a lot to offer. They have one old wooden coaster, a wild mouse type coaster, and a simple corkscrew steel coaster. A newer water ride called The Boston Tea Party was very popular as well as the new for 2002, Star Blaster S&S Turbo Drop ride. The park is clean and well managed and offers lots of shade since it is in a wooded area. It did have heavy crowds on the day we were there, but no line was over an hour. The cost was $23 for the day, parking was free, and the food was of good quality but a bit over priced.
